The Technician

At The Leader Mill (TLM), we believe that competence produces confidence, and that confidence is a necessary prerequisite for initiating solutions to problems.  Possessing useful skills of utility is a powerful trait that contributes greatly to respected Leadership.  Working with one’s hands connects a young man to the world around him in lasting ways that mere thoughts cannot achieve.

TLM Cadets will receive instruction that cooperates with their fulltime vocational apprenticeship producing competence through achievement.  Cadets will learn important ways to contribute around the house and in the garage.  They will become well-acquainted with hand tools and the techniques to use them appropriately and safely.  They will cultivate a habit of examining problems with the mindset of applying necessary tools toward the remedy.

TLM is looking for Mentors who are technically minded and have considerable skill working with tools to improve their circumstances.  They will possess critical thinking skills to identify the best implements for the job and have experience in their proper use.  They will also be characterized as holding safety in its appropriate regard.  And they are open to the introduction of new ideas and tools as new technologies come along.

If you identify with these traits, and have the heart of a teacher, we would like to talk to you about your involvement in TLM Mentoring.  All Mentors work in teams of no fewer than 3, with one Mentor serving as the Mentor Director and other Mentors serving as Assistant Mentors.  Cadets are matched in pairs with a Mentor(s) for each encounter.  Most encounters last no more than 4 hours and are most often conducted on Friday evenings and Saturdays.
