The Art Lover

At The Leader Mill (TLM), our Cadets will become well-rounded young men who have an appreciation for The Arts.  Author Kurt Vonnegut Jr wrote, “The primary benefit of practicing any art, whether well or badly, is that it enables one’s soul to grow.”  Likewise, Aristotle espoused the virtues of including art into one’s life by stating, “The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.

TLM Cadets will be challenged to begin pursuing the value of art into their lives by viewing important “Guy Flicks” that speak to virtuous manhood and masculinity.  They will abstract deeper meanings from within a vast catalog that inspire, teach, and connect with dormant manly traits.  They will learn the value of experiencing quality musicals and plays by attending various productions.

Cadets will also be encouraged to explore the possibilities of expressing creativity that may lie within themselves by participating in endeavors such as painting, writing, sculpting, or learning to play a musical instrument.  While not all Cadets will discover they are abundantly talented in such endeavors, the exposure to these important societal contributions will develop a healthy appreciation for what The Arts can bring to the masculine soul.

TLM is looking for Art Mentors who possess a deep appreciation for what artistic creativity can bring to the growth of young men.  They understand how effective certain quality screenplays can be in teaching and reenforcing appropriate manhood as they display chivalry and sacrifice for the benefit of those under their care.  Mentors also have a teacher’s heart and desire to explain what they have learned about God’s Creation through art.  Mentors may also be gifted in teaching Cadets how to engage in artistic endeavors.

If you identify with these traits, and have the heart of a teacher, we would like to talk to you about your involvement in TLM Mentoring.  All Mentors work in teams of no fewer than 3, with one Mentor serving as the Mentor Director and other Mentors serving as Assistant Mentors.  Cadets are matched in pairs with a Mentor(s) for each encounter.  Most encounters last no more than 4 hours and are most often conducted on Friday evenings and Saturdays.
