At The Leader Mill (TLM), we believe that a pursuit of adventure is crucial in the development of manhood. We’re not talking about being reckless, here. But “safety” (in an absolute personal sense) is mostly a myth. At TLM, we teach our Cadets that risk is built in to God’s plan for men. It is good for men to stretch themselves and achieve great things, even if it involves elements of danger.
From cover to cover, the Bible is loaded with great characters whose stories are rife with peril, hardship, trials, and suffering even unto death! TLM Cadets will learn the difference between fear and danger. They will also learn to calculate risk and plan a path to navigate it toward solutions to problems. They will receive hands-on experience in dealing with the world God created and its manmade systems.
Cadets will become quite acquainted with Nature through many outdoor adventures. Multi-night camping, whitewater rafting, rappelling, hunting, fishing, and the practice of basic survival skills will be a significant part of their learning. Additionally, Cadets will become skilled at navigating the “concrete jungle” by learning how to maneuver in urban environments and mass transportation. They will plan a long-distance trip (including airflight and ground connections) and arrange for their accommodations at each destination.
TLM is looking for Mentors who crave adventure and are invigorated by the thrill of the outdoors. They will be accomplished in skills of self-reliance and have the heart of a teacher who enjoys passing these skills along to others.
If you identify with these traits, and have the heart of a teacher, we would like to talk to you about your involvement in TLM Mentoring. All Mentors work in teams of no fewer than 3, with one Mentor serving as the Mentor Director and other Mentors serving as Assistant Mentors. Cadets are matched in pairs with a Mentor(s) for each encounter. Unlike most other areas of TLM mentorship, Adventure Mentor encounters last more than 4 hours and are most often conducted on Friday evenings and Saturdays, sometimes including overnight trips.
